Residents pay tribute to fallen Vancouver police Officer Sahota

Vancouver resident Cynthia Tilton, left, joins her daughter, McKynzie McFadden, 8, as they honor the memory of Officer Donald Sahota at a memorial Friday morning outside the Vancouver Police Department’s headquarters. Tilton said Sahota helped her through a difficult time in her life because he was kind and willing to listen. “He was just a great guy,” she said. Sahota, 52, was mistakenly shot and killed while off duty at his home near Battle Ground by Clark County sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Feller during a manhunt for a robbery suspect Saturday night. The police cruiser will be parked outside headquarters through Monday for the public to decorate with flowers, cards and other items to memorialize Sahota. Cards or letters to Sahota’s family or the department can also be mailed to 605 E. Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98661. The memorial vehicle will be moved to the funeral service site Tuesday, outside ilani casino. A local “Honor Mile” was held Friday evening at the track at Hudson’s Bay High School to honor Sahota.
