Hannah Jo Hammerstrom hit a big 3-pointer in the overtime period and the Cougars knocked down 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to pick up their first district playoff win in school history with a 57-52 win over Elma in overtime in a 1A district loser-out game at Seton. Seton Catholic (10-11) advances to play King’s Way Christian in another loser-out game on Thursday at Fort Vancouver High School. Maddie Willis led Seton with 16 points, Hammerstrom added 15 points and Cami Price pulled down 23 rebounds. The Cougars fell behind Elma by six in the fourth quarter, but rallied to tie the game on Price’s free throw with 12 seconds left in regulations. A couple of Elma misses sent the game into overtime. After the Eagles hits a 3-pointer to open the overtime period, Lauryn Bowyer hit two free throws, then Hammerstrom buried her 3-pointer to put Seton up two.

“Then we just played really good defense,” Seton coach Joe Potter said. “They didn’t score against after that first 3-pointer.” Price made another free throw, then Willis sealed the win with two free throws with six seconds to go.
