The Washington State Department of Commerce awarded two Vancouver affordable-housing projects a total of $1.2 million as part of a initiative to help fund 1,500 affordable housing units in the state. The department gave $1,059,085 to the city of Vancouver for the Laurel Manor project, which has 82 affordable units. The development serves older adults ages 55 and older, developed by Columbia Non-Profit Housing. In December, the Department of Commerce also gave $5 million to the Laurel Manor project, set for a vacant lot near Northeast 66th Avenue and 33rd Street in the Bagley Downs neighborhood. The department announced Monday that it also gave $161,907 to the city of Vancouver for The Meridian project with 46 affordable units. The project serves people who are coming out of homelessness and have behavioral health challenges. The Meridian site is at the corner of Northeast 78th Avenue and Northeast 32nd Street, and it is being developed by Housing Initiative. In total, the Department of Commerce gave $18.6 million to 16 affordable-housing projects in the state, according to a Monday news release.
