Two robbery suspects were taken into custody Saturday evening after shooting at pursuing law enforcement officers in central Vancouver, according to Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Beck. No one was wounded, and officers did not return fire, Beck said. The shooting occurred at about 5:50 p.m. near East 33rd Street and Watson Avenue in the Fourth Plain Village neighborhood. Deputies pursued the suspects after they allegedly robbed the Kohl’s store at 9321 N.E. Fifth Ave. in Hazel Dell, Beck said. Vancouver police joined the chase, Beck said, after it left southbound Interstate 5 and entered city limits. The suspects shot at pursuing officers before being boxed in at the dead end on 33rd Street, according to Beck and emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

A firearm was reportedly recovered nearby on Fairmount Avenue, according to emergency radio traffic. Both agencies are investigating the incident. Further information was unavailable by press time Saturday.
