A 19-year-old man is accused of driving the car in a March 5 drive-by shooting in Vancouver’s Uptown Village. Elcio A. De Padau Jr. of Vancouver appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of drive-by shooting. Judge Jennifer Snider set his bail at $75,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned April 15. A March 30 arrest warrant states De Padau and another unidentified man argued with two brothers at about 3:40 p.m. at a convenience store in the 2200 block of Main Street. The brothers left when they believed De Padau’s passenger was pulling out a gun. De Padau circled the block looking for the brothers and found them about two minutes later, according to the search warrant affidavit. De Padau’s passenger stepped out of the car behind the brothers and began firing at them, the affidavit states. The brothers pulled out their own guns and fired back at them, hitting De Padau’s car multiple times. No one was injured. De Padau drove away and his passenger ran away, according to court records. De Padau drove around looking for his passenger, and the man flagged him down.

Vancouver police responded minutes later to East 25th Street between Main Street and Broadway for reports of the shooting. Police previously said bullets struck a Clark Public Utilities conduit and cut power to nearby residents, along with Walgreens and Hi-School Pharmacy. De Padau and his passenger were later spotted together on a gas station’s surveillance video, and De Padau can be seen with a firearm, the affidavit states.
