As day three of filing week came to a close, several more candidates filed for state and county offices on the August primary and November general election ballots. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, 294 candidates had filed for 242 offices. According to Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey, there are 32 federal, state, county and local offices up for election in 2022, along with 350 precincts with a Democratic and Republican precinct committee officer for each. A few candidates filed late Tuesday evening, including Republican Hannah Joy, of Carson. Joy filed for the 17th District Position 1 seat currently held by state Rep. Vicki Kraft. This is Joy’s first time running for public office. Kraft and several others are challenging Republican U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler for her 3rd Congressional District seat. Vancouver resident Jeremy Baker, also a Republican, filed for the 49th Legislative District Position 2 office. State Rep. Monica Stonier has held the position since being elected in 2017. This is Baker’s first run for office.

Another newcomer to the campaign trail is John Horch, who filed for the Clark County sheriff’s race late Tuesday. Horch, of Vancouver, is a 33-year veteran of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Park Llafet filed on Wednesday and will face off against state Rep. Sharon Wylie for the 49th District Position 1 office. Llafet, a Republican and resident of Vancouver, ran for the same position in 2020. Vancouver Democrat Terri Niles also filed Wednesday. She is running for the 17th District Position 1 seat. Niles was elected to the Clark County Charter Review Commission in 2020. Following the close of business on Friday, a lot drawing will be conducted for all races — excluding precinct committee officers — to determine the order in which candidates’ names will appear on the primary ballot. The drawing, which is open to the public, will be held at 1408 Franklin St. in Vancouver.

Another drawing to determine the ballot order for precinct committee officers will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the same location. This drawing will also be open to the public. Those with questions about the drawings or other elections issues can call the Clark County Elections Office at 564-397-2345 or email elections@clark.wa.gov.
