Letter: Vote for housing fund in Vancouver
By Lehman Holder, Vancouver Published: January 25, 2023, 6:00am
If homelessness concerns you, vote yes on Proposition 3. Lack of affordable housing is a key driver of homelessness and Prop. 3 will provide dedicated funding for housing and housing services for very-low and low-income people in Vancouver. It will replace the city of Vancouver’s expiring Affordable Housing Fund by raising $10 million annually, totaling $100 million over 10 years starting in 2024. The levy will amount to 30 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. Prop. 3’s programs will help prevent homelessness and create low-income housing, and provide rent assistance to 2,500 households, 550 shelter beds and construct 2,400 affordable housing units. Vote yes.
