As program supervisor for WorkSource Vancouver, I wanted to thank Kelsey Turner and The Columbian for the wonderful article (“Vancouver woman finds independence, sobriety after moving to Safe Stay Community,” March 1). WorkSource is so proud of Courtney’s determination and growth in the face of adversity — and this article was a great reminder on why sharing these stories is so important. WorkSource is an organization funded by state and federal grants that aims to help people find work through job training, resources and support services. Individuals like Courtney are great examples of the WorkSource system at work, overcoming barriers through hard work and utilizing the resources available to them. Homelessness is one of many barriers to entry that workers face every day. Others include transportation, clothing and formal training. WorkSource can help pay for eligible job seekers’ training — just like we did for Courtney.
