A Vancouver woman died at a hospital after the car she was riding in rear-ended a stopped SUV on April 20 on state Highway 14. The Washington State Patrol responded at 9:45 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash at Milepost 8. Investigators learned a Jeep Liberty, driven by Johnny M. Kienbaum, 38, of Kelso, stopped in the left lane after it ran out of gas. A Toyota Camry, driven by Marguerite V. Brooks, 79, of Vancouver, crashed into the rear of the Jeep, according to a crash memo. Brooks and her four passengers were injured and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, the State Patrol said. The passengers were identified as Jeanette M. Baker, 87, of Vancouver; Helen L. Keller, 81, no city of residence listed; Sandra K. Taylor, 87, no city of residence listed; and Patricia H. Turner, 88, of Kennewick. Baker was pronounced dead at the hospital, the crash memo states. Kienbaum and his passenger, Jayden L. Kienbaum, 15, were not injured. Investigators referred a charge of second-degree negligent driving against Johnny Kienbaum. The crash memo states drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
