Prep highlights: Woodland soccer earns district play-in spot
Diego Almodovar scored in the second half to give Woodland boys soccer a 1-0 win over Fort Vancouver on Tuesday to keep the Beavers’ season alive. The win on the final day of the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League season saw Woodland leap Fort Vancouver into fifth place. That earns the Beavers a spot in the district play-in game on Thursday against the No. 4 team from the Evergreen Conference. Stars of the day Alex Harris, Columbia River boys soccer, scored five goals in a 6-0 win over Washougal. Ellie Forster, Seton Catholic softball, went 6 for 8 with four runs, two doubles, two homers and seven RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Stevenson. Dalton Woods, Seton Catholic baseball, went 6 for 9 with a run, three doubles, a triple and five RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Stevenson. Cole Cuypers, Evergreen baseball, went 3 for 4 with three runs, a triple and two RBI in a 10-1 win over Mt. Tahoma. Brady Trombello, Prairie baseball, pitched six shutout innings with six strikeouts and went 1 for 2 with two runs and a double in a 3-0 win over Battle Ground. Jade Gruher, Union girls golf, scored 40 points in Union’s 97-31 Stableford win over Skyview. The defending 4A state champion shot a bogey-free 33 with two birdies and an eagle.
