Two people were displaced by a two-alarm house fire Wednesday afternoon in Vancouver’s Walnut Grove neighborhood. The Vancouver Fire Department was dispatched at 4:08 p.m. to a report of explosions and fire outside a house near Northeast 84th Avenue and 60th Street. Crews said they could see a large plume of smoke while en route. Firefighters arrived within three minutes and found heavy fire burning in several vehicles parked out front, as well as the attic of the house, the fire department said. Photos posted to social media showed an RV camper was heavily damaged. Crews called for a second alarm, and Clark County Fire District 6 responded to assist. “Firefighters had a difficult time accessing the fire due to the collapse of an accessory structure,” the fire department said in a news release.
Crews brought the fire under control in about 40 minutes. Firefighters and investigators remained on scene longer than usual, however, to ensure the integrity of the house was safe and there were no lingering hot spots, the news release states. Two people who were home at the time were uninjured, but two dogs died in the fire, the fire department said. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents. The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
