VANCOUVER — A team of Afifi Shriners from Vancouver and Battle Ground successfully completed this month’s Portland to Coast walking relay. The 150-mile relay coincides with the Hood to Coast running relay, which starts on Mount Hood. Both races end in Seaside, Ore. The Shriners’ team was named “Feet on the Street, Walking for Shriners Children’s Hospital.” Among the participants was 81-year-old Shriner Jim Thompson, who recently underwent two knee surgeries. Thompson walked two legs of the race, totaling 9 miles, to raise money for the Shriners’ hospital programs.
