Letter: Sweep away this bad idea
By John Molenaar, Vancouver Published: January 6, 2025, 6:00am
We read in The Columbian that the city of Vancouver is looking to replace four perfectly good street sweepers that use a little diesel fuel. Oh, the pollution all that causes! (I see one once a month in our street.) Did the city ever consider the pollution from the 300 daily takeoffs at PDX, with the majority of the pollution from those jet engines falling on Vancouver? Of course not. With Vancouver (and the state) dealing with budget deficits, they have no problem buying four of those electric sweepers costing $700,000 each.
