Letter: McGillivray proposal makes sense
By Robert Wallis, Vancouver Published: January 16, 2025, 6:00am
We should all thank Vancouver’s mayor and council for continuing with the proposed “road diet” upgrade of Southeast McGillivray Boulevard. From my perspective as a consulting civil engineer who has helped cities with street upgrade projects for nearly four decades, the opposition to the project makes no sense. My experience with similar projects has been that the public is often concerned about capacity and safety implications, but that those concerns never stand the test of time. There is no question that many of those who oppose the project will look back and realize that they were mistaken. If every street in Vancouver was a complete street, this city would be a better place.
