A pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in central Vancouver. The crash occurred about 9:15 p.m. in the 7800 block of Northeast Vancouver Mall Drive. A driver traveling east, behind another car, which swerved left, was unable to avoid hitting the man who had stepped into the roadway, according to a Vancouver Police Department news release. The driver, who police say showed no signs of impairment, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. However, impairment on the part of the pedestrian is a possible factor, according to the news release. The Vancouver Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating.
