Letter: Fuentes should focus on issues
By Michael Tate, Vancouver Published: January 23, 2025, 6:00am
Clark County Councilor Wil Fuentes’ suggestion to remove the Pledge of Allegiance from council meetings is an unfortunate misstep for being so newly elected. There are plenty of challenges we face as a community; Fuentes’ decision to focus time and energy on undermining a long-standing tradition that brings us together is a distraction and instigates division over unity. As a new councilor, Fuentes should be prioritizing efforts to build bridges, promote understanding and work collaboratively to solve the problems facing our community. Our county needs leadership that focuses on finding solutions to issues like homelessness and public safety — these are the challenges he was elected to address and wanted to solve. I would hope he would invest in issues that will aid our entire county.
