King’s Way Christian boys basketball earned a key win in the chase for the Class 1A Trico League’s final postseason berth, beating Fort Vancouver 60-53 on Wednesday. The road win gives the Knights (13-7, 6-7) a one-game lead over Columbia-White Salmon and Castle Rock for the Trico’s No. 4 seed to the district tournament. Patrick Carney scored 24 points and hit six 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter. Josiah Jointer scored 19 points and Leighton Livengood added 13 points for Fort Vancouver (15-5, 10-3). The Trappers were already locked into the Trico’s No. 2 seed entering Wednesday. The Knights swept two league games over Castle Rock and split two against Columbia. King’s Way concludes the regular season Friday against first-place Seton Catholic. Castle Rock faces Kalama and Columbia takes on Stevenson.
Columbia kept its postseason hopes alive on Wednesday by beating Castle Rock 74-62. 1A Trico League LA CENTER 74, KALAMA 57 — Logan Rainey scored 21 points as the Wildcats wrapped up third place in the Trico League with a road win. Parker McKinney added 14 points as La Center (12-7, 8-5) jumped to a 23-11 lead in the first quarter. Rainey and McKinney each scored seven points in the opening quarter. Abel Koski scored 21 points to lead Kalama (8-11, 4-9). 2A Greater St. Helens League COLUMBIA RIVER 106, HOCKINSON 80 — The Rapids celebrated senior night with a season-high in points, making 45 field goals. A trio of seniors led the way for Columbia River (15-4, 10-3). Aaron Hoey scored 22 points while John Reeder and Ari Richardson each added 18 points.
Oliver Garner scored 20 points and Kyle Alexander added 19 points for Hockinson (6-13, 4-9). Garner made six 3-pointers for the Hawks, who also posted a season-high in points. WOODLAND 62, HUDSON’S BAY 59 — James Long scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as the Beavers held on for a 2A GSHL road win. Elijah Andersen scored 12 points while Zane Logan and Tanner Cusick each added 10 points for Woodland (3-17, 2-12). The Beavers led 28-21 after outscoring the Eagles 13-4 in the second quarter. Jaxon Novotny scored 18 points and Kelden Carney added 13 points for Hudson’s Bay (1-16, 1-12).
R.A. LONG 61, RIDGEFIELD 41 — The Lumberjacks earned a share of the 2A GSHL title with a dominant defensive performance and balanced scoring attack. Joshua Crane led R.A. Long with 17 points, one of four players to reach double figures in scoring. Cameron Newsome scored eight of his 15 points in the second quarter, Rhet Young scored 14 points and Jeffrey Rooklidge added 11 points for the Lumberjacks. A 17-5 third quarter advantage gave R.A. Long a 20-point lead entering the fourth quarter. R.A. Long, which held Ridgefield to a season-low 41 points, can win the league title outright with a win over rival Mark Morris on Friday.
Jamison McCann led the Spudders with 20 points. MARK MORRIS 65, WASHOUGAL 45 — The Monarchs jumped to a 20-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 2A GSHL home win. Dalton Stevens and Nate Stephens each scored 14 points for Mark Morris (18-2, 11-2). Dylan Gibson scored 14 points and Alex Frost added 12 points for Washougal (5-13, 4-9).
