Letter: Preserve programs to help business
As a business that relies on a trained and ready workforce, one key resource to fill open jobs is the public workforce system overseen by Workforce Southwest Washington and its Economic Security for All funds. Last year, EcSA was put into law through a bipartisan bill and funded along with the Community Reinvestment Program. Together, EcSA and CRP have empowered individuals to overcome poverty and achieve self-sufficiency. From a business perspective, the programs allow us to meet our workforce needs and grow right here in Southwest Washington, generating local sales tax and increasing income for individuals. EcSA and CRP have played a role in helping numerous individuals gain employment and receive training with one of the region’s leading employers, PeaceHealth. In support of this initiative, PeaceHealth actively participates on the Workforce Southwest Washington Board of Directors, where it helps shape the investment strategy in alignment with the company’s goals. We’re here to help support a strong state and local economy and we hope the Legislature continues to support successful programs like EcSA and CRP that make it possible.
