Letter: Belkot ouster is warranted
Upholding Michelle Belkot’s removal from the C-Tran board is vital for accountability. Records show she has missed six of 21 C-Tran board meetings, eight of 22 RTC meetings and four of 10 Climate Community Advisory Group meetings, without any alternates present. This raises concerns about whether she attempted to notify an alternate to attend in her place. If not, disciplinary action is warranted. Moreover, Belkot’s disregard for the council’s 4-1 majority decision is troubling. The Clark County Charter mandates adherence to majority votes, and her silence during the Feb. 26 meeting, where the council’s direction was clear, suggests a lack of commitment to collaborative governance. Council members must represent the county’s collective interests rather than individual agendas. Community engagement is essential, and many voices remain unheard due to barriers such as work commitments and limited access to information. It’s crucial that representation is inclusive and nonpartisan. I strongly support the light rail system as a valuable addition to our community and oppose any potential legal action by Belkot regarding her removal. Such actions would divert taxpayer resources away from serving the community effectively. Thank you to the council members who upheld a commitment to accountability and progress.
