Letter: Belkot ouster raises concerns

The recent ouster of Clark County Councilor Michelle Belkot from the C-Tran board should be of some concern to all of us that cast a vote in our local elections (“Fellow Clark County councilors oust Michelle Belkot from C-Tran board after she broke ranks on vote,” The Columbian, March 13). First of all, please be aware that the C-Tran board is appointed, not elected. Second, it appears that if one does not go along with the majority, one is thrown out. The Clark County Council is an elected council and for them to act in this manner should be of concern. Councilor Belkot voted for her district residents, as it should be, and for Councilor Matt Little suggesting a change in the bylaws to force members to vote with the majority raises more concerns for a democratic process in our affairs. There probably is much more to this story, but for now, it does not pass the smell test.
