Letter: Belkot acts unethically

At the March 12 Clark County Council meeting the council rightly voted to remove Michelle Belkot from the C-Tran board. This was a result of actions that were contrary to direction given by the council, after a vote of the majority. While Belkot insists that she represents her district on C-Tran, the C-Tran bylaws clearly state that the two county council members represent the county council. The county Charter and Rules of Procedure also require this. At the March 26 county council meeting, Sue Marshall and Belkot were given clear direction on an expected vote over the word “may.” Marshall stated that they had their marching orders, and at that time Belkot did not say anything about that not applying to her. Belkot has missed six of 21 C-Tran meetings since appointed. Her backup, Glen Yung, was not contacted to attend in her stead for any of these. Clearly, she chose to prevent Yung’s participation in C-Tran, and clearly her own participation was not important enough for her to be there. Evidently, she feels that seat belongs to her, not to the county. This is not about light rail. It is about ethical councilor behavior.
