Letter: Thanks to Vietnam veterans

Saturday, March 29, marked National Vietnam Veterans Day. Additionally, the state of Washington designated March 30 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day (2013 House Bill 1319), honoring those who served in the Vietnam War and Vietnam Era between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of their service location. As a nation, we pay tribute to the courageous men and women who served during this period and their families, who also endured great sacrifices. Many of these veterans did not receive the recognition they deserved upon returning home more than 50 years ago, and we now stand together to acknowledge their service. On Saturday, a coalition of organizations hosted the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War, honoring hundreds of local veterans. The event celebrates their dedication, loyalty and sacrifices. Our Vietnam and Vietnam era veterans hold a place of honor in our community. This day serves as a meaningful tribute to their service and resilience. Let us take this opportunity to express our gratitude, recognition and appreciation to those who served. Thank you, Vietnam era veterans.
