Letter: Stand up for democracy

To our Democratic legislators: Remember Uvalde? Remember how police stood outside of the classroom where the shooter was? They waited 1 hour, 14 minutes, 8 seconds. Children died waiting for them to enter. We, as Americans, are waiting for you to enter the classroom of our democracy and save us before more lives are lost. What are you waiting for? Are you too scared to risk your lives to save our country from a coward with bone spurs? He’d never risk his life for anybody. Despite having weapons and body armor, police did not enter that classroom because they were confused by chaos and a lack of urgency. How could they not know the urgency of the situation? How do you not understand how much danger we are in right now? This so-called president is defying the Constitution, judges’ orders and common decency. You must act now. We elected you to stand up for the Constitution and its citizens. Do it now. Tell us what you need from us. We’ll do it. As a 76-year-old white cis female, I’m ready to risk my life. Are you? If we don’t act now, tomorrow might be too late.
