Vancouver police arrested a 16-year-old boy who they say shot one person during a fight at a carnival Thursday night in central Vancouver. Authorities did not identify the victim but said his wound was not life-threatening. Police responded about 9:15 p.m. to the carnival at the Vancouver Plaza parking lot. A group of youths started fighting, and one teen fired a gun, striking another person in the stomach, according to a Vancouver Police Department news release. A witness drove the victim to a hospital, where police later contacted the person, the news release states. Police set up containment in the area and used a drone and police K-9 to track the shooter, but he was not there, according to the news release.

Detectives identified the suspect and determined he was at his home. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree assault with a firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Authorities did not release the suspect’s identity. The incident lasted about 1½ hours and prompted a large police response. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted Vancouver police, the news release states.
