Letter: Trump leads U.S. into abyss

It pains me greatly to watch and stand by while the country I’ve loved for more than eight decades slips, day by day, into the abyss. I can’t escape the image of (reputedly) the world’s richest man, wearing a beanie and dark glasses and with his young son on his shoulders, pacing the Oval Office while his “employer” and buddy smiles broadly from behind his desk. Donald Trump selected a group of incompetents, by far the least qualified in American history, to lead his Cabinet and man the agencies of the federal government. These dullards were confirmed nearly unanimously by the Republican majority in the Senate. As a group, the senators have less integrity and courage than a flock of sheep. The Trump team has taken its first steps to shut down Radio Liberty/Free Europe which has beamed truth and hope for 75 years to the beleaguered masses that have had little or no access to those essential commodities. Today it’s NPR and PBS that are on Trump’s hit list. I can’t describe the joy and wonder that my two sons (ages 55 and 52) had growing up on “Sesame Street” and “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” when they were small.
