Prep highlights, April 5: Prairie’s Will Foster runner-up in shot put at prestigious Oregon Relays
Prairie High senior Will Foster, the defending Class 3A state champion in the boys shot put, placed second at the event at Friday’s prestigious Oregon Relays to highlight athletes competing from Southwest Washington. Foster’s best throw of 58 feet, 9.50 inches at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field was runner-up to winner Joseph Miraya of Mountain View (Idaho), who had a first-place throw of 60.1-50. Foster owns Class 3A’s top throw this spring of 60 feet, 1 inch, a personal-best. The elite field at Oregon Relays also featured Washington’s top-ranked shot putters in Class 4A (Puyallup’s Connor Inman), Class 3A (Foster) and Class 2A (Grandview’s Titus Jeffrey). All three lead their respective classifications in the shot put and own three of the top four marks across all classifications as of April 4. Inman and Jeffrey finished third and fourth, respectively, at Friday’s competition.
Also Friday, Camas senior Jack Macdonald placed third in the boys 200 meters with a personal-best time of 21.87 on Friday. He also placed seventh in the 100 after clocking in a personal-best 10.88 in Friday’s prelims. The meet concludes Saturday. STARS OF THE DAY Makenzie Henthorn, Mark Morris softball, struck out 17 batters over seven innings of no-hit softball in a 9-0 shutout of Rochester to remain undefeated. Jacob Long, Battle Ground baseball, went 3 for 4 with a pair of two-RBI doubles in an 11-1 victory over Mountain View. Miles Franett, Kelso baseball, had a walk-off RBI single in the seventh to lift the Hilanders to a 2-1 win over Skyview.
Harrison Hoffarth, Columbia River baseball, scattered three hits over six innings and struck out 10 Prairie batters in a 6-0 shutout. Andi Rister, Castle Rock softball, went 4 for 5 with a run scored and RBI in a 10-9 loss to Toutle Lake.
