Letter: Keep protesting, stay nonviolent

We are at the people disappearing stage. Rip the blinders off, folks. It’s far too late to keep saying he/they wouldn’t do that. They have, they are, and they will. They are counting on our respect for rule of law to give them opportunity and time to do enough damage, even as they ignore the laws as method. We are being rushed toward the brink of democratic capitulation as a nation or to a point where reactive behavior drives us, too, outside the rules. I suspect that martial law is one anticipated path to their ends, perhaps preferred as an excuse. Nonviolent protests are growing and do appear to get results at an immediate level, but many if not most feel more like delays than true reversals. The multiple judicial defeats are heartening but hard to view as actual progress without follow-up as to what happened or is happening. And back to people disappearing, which feels like a hard trigger point. I hope we can all keep protesting, keep talking to everyone, and stay nonviolent. But loud.
