Winterhawks going to Game 7 against Prince George
Cougars keep WHL playoff series alive by winning at home 4-1
Riley Heidt scored three times, netminder Joshua Ravensbergen had 26 saves, and the Prince George Cougars beat the visiting Portland Winterhawks 4-1 in Western Hockey League playoff action on Sunday night at the CN Centre in Prince George, B.C. Ben Riche also scored for the Cougars, who force a seventh and deciding game Monday in the first-round playoff series with the victory. Kyle Chyzowski scored for the Winterhawks, who led the best-of-seven series 3-1, but lost 7-2 on Friday to allow the Cougars to return home. The teams were scoreless after 20 minutes and tied 1-1 heading into the third. Heidt broke the deadlock with his second of the night early in the third period.
The Winterhawks appeared to have tied the game at 2-2 when Ryder Thompson’s shot got through Chyzowski’s screen in front. After initially being called a goal, the referees huddled and determined there was goalie interference by Chyzowski and the goal was disallowed. Prince George would add an insurance goal, and Heidt scored on an empty net for his hat trick to send the series to Game 7. Up next Puck drops at 7 p.m. Monday for the deciding game at Prince George. The game can be streamed for free on the Victory+ app.
